Today was our start of the Camino Sanabres or at least the last 100 kms of it into Santiago and it’s going to be 30-31 degrees. So we thought, well, we’ve got a big climb out of Ourense to begin with so let’s start really early. Oh gee! That was a very difficult few kilometers…
So we started out in the rain from Tamallancos and it was an interesting walk, lots of up and downs. We’re quite surprised on this route, the sort of inclines and declines. It’s not obvious from some of the guides and the maps but there’s a lot of up and down which takes it out of your legs…
This turned out to be an 11-hour day so, it was fairly taxing. There was a steep climb out of Oseira to begin with, which really took it out of the legs, and then lots of up and downs. Then we got to El Castro. It was a little bit confusing coming out of San Martiño. There seemed to be two or three different ways to get to El Castro…
think Pat is beginning to think that I’m making up the distances. Certainly the distances we’re finding on Gronze seem to be a little bit underestimated and with all the ups and downs. We’re finding some of the distances a bit of a struggle…
This was supposed to be a nice, short, easy day. It wasn’t too bad, but again we had trouble with the distances. We left Silleda at about 6:30. So, it was generally downhill. If you look at the Gronze profile maps, it’s generally downhill, but there’s lots of ups too. And those little ups can really take it out of your legs…
We set out from Casa Leiras at about 6:00 using head torches. We were hoping to find somewhere open for breakfast prior to reaching Ponte Ulla but we didn’t. When we got to Ponte Ulla, we were hoping to find a cafe open but there wasn’t one…
Today we walked from Casa de Casal where we were staying in Lestedo to Santiago. It’s our final day! My memory certainly fails me because the route seems to have changed a little bit as it often does, of course, and the breakfast spot that I was hoping to find within an hour or two wasn’t there anymore…
