What’s the Difference between a Walk and a Pilgrimage?

What’s the Difference between a Walk and a Pilgrimage?

I pondered this question often whilst walking. And my views changed a bit along the journey. And of course these are just my personal views. My Camino was no better, no more valid than any one else’s! This was just how I saw mine being a Pilgrimage rather than a Walk. But for me it ‘felt’ like a Pilgrimage from the start. I set out with the intention of walking a Pilgrimage, and I think that’s just what I got.

What, another Camino?

What, another Camino?

I finished my Camino de Santiago about 7 weeks ago. And when I finished, I said that it would be a one-off, never to be repeated event. Mainly because it was so special, everything that I wished for, and so any other repeat performance could only be a poor comparison.

SIM Cards for your Camino

SIM Cards for your Camino

I’ve had a few questions related to SIM cards. So this was my experience based on walking the Camino Frances in 2015 (From St Jean). I pre purchased SIM cards for France and Spain. I didn’t want to wait until hitting the first major town before being able to get a SIM card.

How long should you walk for your Camino?

How long should you walk for your Camino?

OK, OK. Everyone told me this would happen! Having said that walking one Camino was enough for me……..I’m now planning the next. This next one will be a ‘short’ walk of 100 kms from Sarria as my wife Pat wants to join me but she’s not physically capable of a longer one. Maybe we’ll share our journey on this blog too.

More Post Camino Reflections

It’s 107 days since I walked in to Santiago de Compostela, having departed from St Jean 40 days before. And I still reflect on my walk. Almost daily. I still follow the Camino of others on the Camino Forum. And now I’m thinking of my next Camino. But what has changed if anything? Am I just back into the daily grind? Or are there lasting Camino impacts?

The Post Camino Blues

The Post Camino Blues

The Post Camino Blues are real for many people. So it makes sense to be ready for it…… I had read a lot about Pilgrims arriving in Santiago and going through a sense of loss. A ‘let down’ that their journey was over. As you will have read in my Blog I was ready for that, but didn’t experience it.

Camino de Santiago Videos

Camino de Santiago Videos

My Favourite Camino Videos There are some great Camino de Santiago videos that other Pilgrims have made and indeed some that inspired me to either walk the Camino or make my own videos. Here’s my own ‘series’. https://robscamino.com/camino-de-santiago-video-series/

Camino + 189 Days (6 months)

Camino + 189 Days (6 months)

Not Much… I really enjoy looking back on this Blog. It brings back very clearly the emotions and feelings at the time I was walking. It’s also valuable to re-read the ‘Post Camino’ Blog posts, as it helps me assess where I was at, and where I thought I was heading…..against where I actually am now.
