6th of May – The Final Day
We decided to leave Lavacolla early, to get ourselves the best chance of making the midday mass in Santiago. Given this is Pat’s first Camino, we wanted to be able to have the opportunity to go to as many masses as possible, so that at least she’d have a chance of seeing the Botafumeiro swing. We actually got up at 5:30 am, as breakfast in the hotel was served from 6.
5th of May – Camino Magic
It’s funny how the Camino will work its magic if you let it. I’m not sure how many days we’ve been walking at 7 or 8, you tend not to bother counting when you spend your day just putting one foot in front of the other and enjoying the journey.
4th of May – Reflections
This morning, we left Arzua and we’re doing about 16 kilometres to Rua and that will leave us two more days to get to Santiago, two more easy days, 16 kilometres to Lavacolla, and then a short 10 kilometre day to Santiago. Unfortunately, I think our final two days will be raining, but we’ve been very lucky with the weather so far, so we can’t complain.

2nd of May – From Palas de Rei to Melide
We’re now getting into the rhythm of the Camino fairly well, although because we’re only walking short days, we’re not leaving particularly early, generally between 9 and 9:30 am. Today’s section is about 15 kilometres, which seems to be about as much as Pat can take at the moment.
1st of May – Day 4: To Palas de Rei
So today we were very lucky, we have glorious weather again, probably about 14 degrees and a clear blue sky. We started off from Ventas and for the first time so far, managed to get eggs for breakfast which was a great start to the day. Today is just a short stretch into Palas de Rei.

28th of April – Camino Day 1 from Sarria
Day 1 of our Camino proper started from Sarria. Sarria is a very common starting place for those who want to talk the minimum distance of 100 kilometres in order to qualify for the Compostela.
27th of April – From Madrid to the Camino
To reach our Camino start point from Madrid, we decided to take the train. This proved to be a very pleasant journey on quite a fast train that at times hit 200 kilometres an hour. And we had a lovely view of the country side, and just north of Madrid are some beautiful snow-capped mountains.

26th of April – Madrid
For our Camino, we decided to stay two nights in Madrid. This was to allow us to get over our jet lag, and also to see one of the great cities in Spain. We were very luck with our selection of hotel, because it was right in the middle of the old sector of Madrid. This meant that we could very easily walk to all of the main sights around Madrid. So we were able to visit the Royal Palace, and the Mercado de San Miguel, which is a famous tapas market.
