The Route Down to Roncesvalles
I’m just on the downhill section from the Ibaneta Pass down to Roncesvalles. People did say this is hard on the knees,….it is. I’m taking the easier route around to the right, which is a slightly gentler route but a bit longer.

Today is a very different feeling walking, I wonder why it feels much more lonely. Perhaps it was because I had a chat with Pat, my wife, on the phone for an hour before I started. We try to chat each day on Skype, and I’m probably missing her company.
Crunch, Crunch, Click, Click. Crunch, Crunch, Click, Click. That’s the only sound as I’m walking towards the next village as my boots and poles hit the gravel track, interrupted now and again by the noise of another stream around the bend with little stone bridges over them for crossing.

It was interesting just doing a short stage today, 12 kilometers to get into the village of Viscarret and it’s really quiet. Of course what happens when you arrive in the afternoon in some of these Spanish villages is it’s during siesta, so there isn’t really anyone around.
