You don’t seem to talk with as many other travellers as you did on your first walk Rob. Is it an accepted Camino rule that solo travellers converse more, and that those walking as a couple or a group tend to do so to a lesser extent – or is that just my perception of your blog ?
We’ve met a lot of great people, but I think as a solo Pilgrim you naturally chat to more…..
There are many factors. In fact I might post about this. One is walking speed. There is a tendency to chat to those walking at ‘your’ speed whilst on the path. We are walking very slowly due to injury, mainly Pat’s Plantaar Faciitis. So everyone else passes us. We might walk the same distance, but take 3-4 hours longer doing it. So our routine is different.
Also accommodation choice can be a factor. Those in Albergues will be exposed to more social interaction.
And then your own personality! Walking on my own, I tend to chat to everyone…. walking with a partner, less so…
This also raises the differences and preferences in walking alone or with someone. Both are good, but very different experiences…I’ll write more about that later.
I like Pat’s hat…just wondering what brand or where she bought it?
Bought at Kathmandu a few years ago.
