VdlP Day 26 – Salamanca to Calzada de Valdunciel.
A fairly short day from Salamanca to Calzada de Valdunciel, just 16 kms. It was that or 36 kms.
Nothing particularly remarkable, nice countryside, an open sort of landscape with fields and a couple of small villages on the way with not much open, of course. I’m used to that.
Coming out of Salamanca is a little bit of a drag and you need to be careful to make sure that you are following the right roads coming out of Salamanca. If you look at your guidebook it’s not that complicated, but it’s the first 6 k’s or so coming out of Salamanca that is along the side of the roads, but after that it’s very pleasant.
In Calzada I stayed in a little bar hostel. They had rooms above the bar, the El Pozo, and I met up with some other pilgrims in there for the menú del día, which was very nice. Not a particularly remarkable day, but another good one. A short day with a really nice meal at the end of it.
This is where I stayed: https://www.gronze.com/castilla-y-leon/salamanca/calzada-valdunciel/hostal-pozo
These wheat fields on the right and on the left of the Camino remind me of the Camino Frances walking the Meseta…where you have no one in sight except fields….
Yes, a lot of te VdlP is like the Meseta. I fell in love with those huge open landscapes. The peace, the solitude, alone with my thoughts and just the sound of the birds and the wind…….
