This was supposed to be a nice, short, easy day. It wasn’t too bad, but again we had trouble with the distances. We left Silleda at about 6:30. What was really good with the hostel that we were staying in, Hostel Casasnovas, is that the bar opened for breakfast at 6.
But they didn’t have anything other than some croissant and toast and orange juice, but that was enough to get us going. So, it was generally downhill. If you look at the Gronze profile maps, it’s generally downhill, but there’s lots of ups too. And those little ups can really take it out of your legs.
We stopped in Bandeira for a second breakfast, got some great scrambled eggs at the Hotel Victoriano, I think it is, where I stayed on my last camino, coming back from the Invierno and we had a nice break there because it was only 5k’s to Dornelas where we’re staying at Casa Leiras.
Well, I measured the distance this time and at 5k’s we were still a long way short of Dornales. I think it was probably closer to 7. The albergue didn’t open until 1:30 but we had messaged them that we might arrive a bit earlier due to the heat.
We hung around a bit and eventually got in, I think about 12:30, which was great. Very nice albergue, 10 beds. We have a community dinner tonight, which will be interesting. And then tomorrow again because of the heat we’re going to set off really early for our penultimate day.
