Day 9 Zafra to Villafranca de los Barros.
Not a great sleep last night. There were a lot of partying going on right outside my room. But nevermind, today is a relatively okay day in terms of distance – 20 kms. So, I’m going to have a slow and steady day.
I was hoping to stop in the first village for coffee, but unfortunately, there were no bars open, but there was this amazing smell of fresh bread all over the village. Then I discovered there was a fresh bread van where all the locals were queuing up for. But I was up for coffee, not bread.
Later on the walk, I found a great lunch spot at a rather interesting alburgue. At the end of the day at the Villafranca de los Barros, fate was good to me because I had an amazing room at a hostel for €30, which was a much better sleep, than a far more expensive room that I had in Zafra the night before. Oh, I stayed at Casa Perin. Highly recommended. See the video below.
Then of course I had to ponder the next day because this is the infamous 27 kilometer-day to Torremejia. For me that’s a very long day. It’s a bit like the infamous 17 km stretch after Carrion on the Camino Frances. Dead straight and no water or food. Though I think that stretch now had a mobile cafe.
Tip from a light sleeper Rob, I use wax earplugs, absolutely essential. They eliminate traffic noise/kids/drunks/fiestas. Available from Boots Chemist in UK but you’ll probably find similar items in Spain
I have some with me!
Hi Rob I know I was not there at the Zafra Parador but you were a paying guest, you could have gone to Reception and mentioned the party noise that interfered with your rest. Chris from Sydney. Australia 🇦🇺
It was just bad luck. The noise was outside the Hotel.
