Day 30 – Time and Distance

by | May 24, 2018 | Journey, Places | 0 comments

Yesterday on our way into Astorga from the top of the hill we could see some distant mountains and one of those was the area of the Cruz de Ferro.

Today as we are on our way to Foncebadón and we’re getting closer and closer to that mountain range.

As I look up from the path what was really just a hazy blur yesterday is now starting to gain some definition and we can start to see features on mountains.

Time and distance really does take on a totally new meaning when you are walking the Camino, for any length of time. We are well in the routine now of just walking, eating, and sleeping. I am really not sure what day of the week it is, what date of the month, and why should I care?

We were looking last night at potential stopping points over the next few days. And it was only then that I realized the end is actually getting a little bit closer. Of course, we’re well over halfway now.

And as we started to look at potential hotels in Villafranca and O Cebreiro and beyond, maybe we realized that in a few days we will be in Sarria, and to the final 100 kilometers.

But for now, let’s just enjoy the moment and the walk and the sound of the birds, and this beautiful weather. Although according to the weather forecast, we’re due for thunderstorms in the early afternoon. We are trying to get to Rabanal, in time for lunch, before the final climb up to Foncebadón. It will be interesting to see if we make it there before the storms.
