Day 6 on the VdlP. 20 kms today from El Real de la Jarra to Monesterio.
It was an early Camino start in the dark in search of breakfast. I had to walk from the far side of town, back through town, but found a great bar open. There always seems to be a bar open early for the locals. I saw two other Pilgrims but really just said Hello. I’m not sure, but I get the feeling most people walking this Camino walk alone and want to enjoy the solitude. Maybe?
There was an amazing castle coming out of town, take a look at the gallery.
And the umbrella comes out for the first time. I was so glad of the umbrella, as whilst the day was not that hot, the sun was. It was to come in use a lot in the coming days.
I stopped at a highway service area for lunch and two old guys asked me where I was walking to and from and how old I was LOL. I think they were shocked that a guy not much younger than them was walking so far!
The last bit up to Monesterio was a gradual uphill and it was getting quite hot. Another Pilgrim came shooting past me. A guy from Switzerland who walks really far and fast. I lost him the next day or so.
Great video. I remember that truck stop was good- had the tortilla and coffee. On the VdlP you look forward to places to eat, sometimes any place, that you would never consider on the Frances or Portuguese.
Very true LOL
