Of course, one of the amazing experiences in completing a Camino is the Pilgrim’s Mass in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, and seeing Botafumeiro ‘Fly’. Which it doesn’t every day. So don’t be disappointed if you don’t see it. I don’t believe there is a way of knowing prior to the Mass.

We are told that in historical times, Pilgrims would bathe in the river at Lavacolla on the final day in Santiago and that the incense burning in the Botafumeiro was actually to mask the smell of the Pilgrims!
