There are many different types of accommodation available on the Camino Routes. Jenny shares her experience as a Pilgrim and a Hospitelera.. (host)
TYPES of Accommodation Explained.
ALBERGUE.
Communal living style ‘dormitory’ accommodation. Though some have private rooms too.
3 main types. (With increasing prices and quality generally)
Municipal. Basic and government-run.
Association based. Might be church groups or Camino groups. Usually run by volunteers.
Private. Often run by the owners, often nicer facilities, meals.
CASA RURAL (CR). A small private guest house. a.k.a. Bed and Breakfast. Often proving evening meals, laundry etc. Worth thinking about if shared. i.e., 2 x Albergue bed costs are often similar to the cost of a cheap CR room.
HOSTAL/HOSTEL. Basically, a small basic private hotel. Think larger casa rural.
HOTELS. Of every size and quality.
