The post office, the\u00a0Correos,\u00a0were\u00a0very helpful.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6975\" src=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Day-1-Madrid-to-Colmenar-Viejo-Breakfast.jpg\" alt=\"Day 1 - Madrid to Colmenar Viejo - Breakfast\" width=\"950\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Day-1-Madrid-to-Colmenar-Viejo-Breakfast.jpg 950w, https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Day-1-Madrid-to-Colmenar-Viejo-Breakfast-480x177.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 950px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And with that done, we grabbed some breakfast and managed to\u00a0get\u00a0the train to\u00a0Tres\u00a0Cantos.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We\u00a0were avoiding\u00a0walking out of Madrid as we both\u00a0have\u00a0fairly bad feet.\u00a0We were a bit worried that a day walking on pavement could end our Camino on day one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6977\" src=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Day-1-Madrid-to-Colmenar-Viejo-Train-to-Tres-Cantos.jpg\" alt=\"Day 1 - Madrid to Colmenar Viejo - Train to Tres Cantos\" width=\"950\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Day-1-Madrid-to-Colmenar-Viejo-Train-to-Tres-Cantos.jpg 950w, https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Day-1-Madrid-to-Colmenar-Viejo-Train-to-Tres-Cantos-480x177.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 950px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So, like quite a few people do, I think we decided to get the train to Tres Cantos and that worked\u00a0out really well.\u00a0And then\u00a0a very slow,\u00a0easy walk, we thought,\u00a0from Tres Cantos, just over 10 k&#8217;s, to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Colmenar Viejo<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. It seemed like\u00a0a very long\u00a010k\u2019s\u00a0to be\u00a0honest and there were lots of stream crossings along the way as well which were interesting.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">I&#8217;d\u00a0heard about those.\u00a0Thankfully\u00a0the water\u00a0wasn&#8217;t\u00a0too\u00a0high\u00a0and we could use the stone blocks to\u00a0cross\u00a0but it was still a little bit precarious and a couple of times we thought we might fall in.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7014\" src=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Day-1-Madrid-to-Colmenar-Viejo-Crossing-the-Stream-1.jpg\" alt=\"Day 1 - Madrid to Colmenar Viejo - Crossing the Stream\" width=\"950\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Day-1-Madrid-to-Colmenar-Viejo-Crossing-the-Stream-1.jpg 950w, https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Day-1-Madrid-to-Colmenar-Viejo-Crossing-the-Stream-1-480x177.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 950px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But it was overall a really nice walk, lots of animals, there was lots of sheep and cows. The walking surface was really nice. But the last bit into Colmenar Viejo was a real drag, like 3k\u2019s uphill. But\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0in the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Hostal El\u00a0Chisc\u00f3n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, which is one of a couple of places that people\u00a0generally use\u00a0here, which seems\u00a0quite good.
