{"id":1913,"date":"2015-09-21T11:00:36","date_gmt":"2015-09-21T01:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/robscamino.com\/?p=1913"},"modified":"2026-03-11T17:28:22","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T06:28:22","slug":"more-post-camino-reflections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/more-post-camino-reflections\/","title":{"rendered":"More Post Camino Reflections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>It&#8217;s 107 days since I walked in to Santiago de Compostela<\/strong><\/em>, having departed from St Jean 40 days before.<\/p>\n<p>And I\u00a0still reflect on my walk.\u00a0 Almost daily.\u00a0 I still follow the Camino of others on the Camino Forum.\u00a0 And now I&#8217;m thinking of my next Camino.<\/p>\n<p>But what has changed if anything?\u00a0\u00a0 Am I just back into the daily grind?\u00a0 Or are there lasting Camino impacts?<\/p>\n<p>I think it would be hard to spend 40 days on the road, mainly alone, with all that time to think and reflect, and not be changed in some lasting way&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>So three\u00a0and a bit months later, what do I feel has changed for me?<\/p>\n<p>Here are some random thoughts:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><em>I&#8217;m calmer<\/em><\/strong>. Not that I really used to get angry or upset before my Camino.\u00a0 But now I&#8217;m just more relaxed about things.\u00a0 I certainly don&#8217;t stress as much. And to a degree&#8230;.the Camino provides&#8230;.still.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>I&#8217;ve put on Weight<\/em><\/strong>! Well that&#8217;s not good.\u00a0 My Camino appetite remained, but not the exercise.\u00a0\u00a0 I have a feeble excuse in that I finally got around to having my Achilles tendons re scanned.\u00a0 And they are a lot worse than\u00a0before my Camino.\u00a0 So I&#8217;ll need to get into my Camino routine of stretching, icing, physio, etc to reduce the inflammation and pain.\u00a0 Ready for the next Camino!<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>I&#8217;m Happy Alone<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve always been perfectly comfortable with just my own company.\u00a0 But I need to make an effort not to turn into some kind of recluse!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 That would not be good or healthy&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I think it will take a bit more time to &#8216;re-integrate&#8217; back into being with other people all the time&#8230;.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>I&#8217;m Planning Ahead<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 Having had a taste of a period without work and responsibility, I now realise my work is not my life.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t define me.\u00a0 What&#8217;s that lovely quote from the Movie.\u00a0 &#8220;<em>Dad you don&#8217;t choose a life&#8230;you live one&#8221;.\u00a0 <\/em>For the last 40 years my work has defined me.\u00a0 Now I need &#8216;re defining&#8217; &#8230;&#8230;.\u00a0\u00a0 A bit of a work in progress.\u00a0 But life beyond full time work is looking more and more attractive.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>More Trips and time out<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 My wife Pat and I are planning some trips.\u00a0 Including a mini Camino&#8230;.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Who&#8217;s Important?<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Another work in progress.\u00a0 Following a strong\u00a0&#8216;reminder&#8217; from above when I was kneeling at the Cruz de Ferro.\u00a0\u00a0 There\u00a0are others for whom I need to give more time&#8230;.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Spiritual Connection<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 That&#8217;s still there, though not as &#8216;ever present&#8217; as it was whilst walking past Churches and road side crosses every day&#8230;.pausing to reflect&#8230;.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Clothing &#8230;..\u00a0<\/strong><\/em> Oh, and I wear my Camino walking gear to work every day!\u00a0 No, it&#8217;s not as mad as it sounds.\u00a0 I only live 1 km from work so I generally walk to work.\u00a0 My Camino gear is very comfortable.\u00a0 And&#8230;..my Achilles tendons are still bad and my walking boots have great support and insoles that help a lot.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And Yes.
