{"id":1071,"date":"2015-05-26T10:38:27","date_gmt":"2015-05-26T10:38:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/robscamino.com\/?p=1071"},"modified":"2018-04-17T10:07:16","modified_gmt":"2018-04-17T00:07:16","slug":"26th-of-may-foncebadon-to-molinaseca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/26th-of-may-foncebadon-to-molinaseca\/","title":{"rendered":"26th of May &#8211; Cruz de Ferro and Beyond | Foncebad\u00f3n to Molinaseca"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>The Cruz de Ferro<\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>A very Special Place for Camino Pilgrims<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to make sure that I got to the <em>Cross<\/em> before big crowds of pilgrims got there.<\/p>\n<p>So as breakfast started at 6:30 at the hostel, I was on my way by 6:50.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1773 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/early-morning-Foncebadon.jpg\" alt=\"Walking out of Foncebadon\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/early-morning-Foncebadon.jpg 800w, https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/early-morning-Foncebadon-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The walk up to the cross from <a href=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/25th-of-may-en-route-to-foncebadon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foncebadon<\/a> was only about two and a half kilometers and it was a glorious walk in the early morning, with the crisp air, and great views looking back across the way we had come.<\/p>\n<p>When I got to the cross, I was not disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>There were only a few people there and it wasn&#8217;t too noisy. And so I laid my stone and some stones for others and said a few words at the cross (just like in the movie)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>I really like the traditional Camino Pilgrims Prayer&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Lord, may this stone, a symbol of my efforts on the pilgrimage that i lay at the foot of the cross, weigh the balance in favour of my good deeds some day when the deeds of my life are judged. let it be so.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">I then hung around taking photographs and videos. \u00a0I could have stayed there for hours&#8230;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It was certainly an emotional part of the <em>Camino.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Cruz-de-Ferro-1.jpg\" alt=\"Cruz de Ferro\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Rob-OByrne-at-the-Cruz-de-Ferro-1.jpg\" alt=\"Rob O'Byrne at the Cruz de Ferro\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The walk down from the cross was extremely pleasant. The weather was great, and the views fantastic.<\/p>\n<p>Small villages on the way down <em><strong>Acebo<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Riego de Ambros<\/strong><\/em> were probably some of the nicest villages I&#8217;ve come across so far.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Acebo<\/strong><\/em>, being the first village I came to, I stopped for refreshment, a <em>bocadillo<\/em> and a cold drink before continuing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1776\" src=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Acebo-Spain.jpg\" alt=\"Acebo, Spain\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Acebo-Spain.jpg 800w, https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Acebo-Spain-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I knew that the descent from <em>Acebo<\/em> and down through <em>Riego de Ambros<\/em> was going to be quite steep but I was feeling quite capable of doing that.<\/p>\n<p>I should have known better&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>From <em>Acebo<\/em> down to <em>Riego de Ambros<\/em> wasn&#8217;t too bad, but after that it became extremely rocky and difficult underfoot.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/walking-to-Molinaseca-1.jpg\" alt=\"Walking to Molinaseca\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That was probably the hardest part of my <em>Camino<\/em> so far in terms of the physical walking.<\/p>\n<p>By the time I arrived at\u00a0<em><strong>Molinaseca,<\/strong><\/em> I really felt like I couldn&#8217;t walk much further. Unfortunately, the descent over\u00a0a very rough terrain was creating problems with my shins again.<\/p>\n<p>So once I settled into my hostel in\u00a0<em>Molinaseca<\/em>, it was trip round\u00a0to the pharmacy to see what they could do. They&#8217;ve loaded me up with a range of compression socks and ointments.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll need to rest a bit the following day before continuing just to make sure that I don&#8217;t cause any further damage to my shins, as if this gets worse, it can be a showstopper.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately rest is really the only thing to do when you get shin splints.<\/p>\n<p>But the good news is, the hostel that I was booked into is really nice and as I sit outside, having some refreshments, a few familiar faces are coming into town so at least that will\u00a0make dinner a pleasant today, but there was a lot, <em><strong>a lot<\/strong><\/em>, to see.<\/p>\n<p>In the videos below, you&#8217;ll see sections of the complete stage along with a fair bit around the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/robscamino.com\/2015\/26th-of-may-cruz-de-ferro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cruz de Ferro<\/a> and probably the most beautiful town I&#8217;ve met on the Camino so far, Molinaseca.<\/p>\n<p>I also take a few minutes out to pause and reflect on the journey so far. \u00a0Whilst a few &#8216;Camino Amigos&#8217; drop
